'HOMICIDE: THE MOVIE,' BASED ON THE AWARD-WINNING SERIES AND STARRING THE ORIGINAL CAST, STARTS PRODUCTION FOR BROADCAST THIS SPRING ON NBC
Emmy-Award Winner Andre Braugher Reprises His Role Along With Other Cast Members from the Series' Seven-Year Run
Production is set to begin in Baltimore this November on "Homicide: The Movie," an NBC Movie of the Week based on the award-winning former NBC series, "Homicide: Life on the Streets," in anticipation of being telecast later this season. Original cast members from the series' acclaimed seven year run -- including Andre Braugher, who won an Emmy Award for his performance on the series -- will reprise their familiar roles for this project. Also on board are the show's original executive producers, Emmy- and Oscar-winning writer/director Barry Levinson ("Wag the Dog," "Rain Man," "Diner") and Emmy-winning writer/producer Tom Fontana ("Oz," "St. Elsewhere").
The premise for the movie revolves around the shooting of one of the department's own, which reunites the detectives to search for the perpetrator. While a "stand-alone" movie for fans and non-fans alike, the movie will answer unresolved questions from the show's final season.
In addition to Braugher as Detective "Frank" Pembleton, returning cast members include Daniel Baldwin as Det. Beau Felton; Ned Beatty as Det. Stanley Bolander; Richard Belzer as Det. John Munch; Reed Diamond as Det. Mike Kellerman, Giancarlo Esposito as Special Agent Mike Giardello; Michele Forbes as Dr. Juliana Cox; Peter Gerety as Det. Stuart Gharty; Isabella Hoffman as Captain Megan Russert; Zeljko Ivanek as Ed Danvers; Clark Johnson as Det. Meldrick Lewis; Yaphet Kotto as Lt. Al Giardello; Melissa Leo as Det. Kay Howard; Toni Lewis as Det. Terri Stivers; Michael Michele as Det. Rene Sheppard; Max Perlich as James Brodie; Jon Palito as Det. Steve Croscetti; Kyle Secor as Det. Tim Bayliss; Jon Seda as Det. Paul Falsone and Callie Thorne as Det. Laura Ballard.
Premiering on the network in 1992, "Homicide: Life on the Streets" ended with its seventh season last year. During its critically acclaimed run, the series was thrice recognized by the Peabody Awards, becoming only the second television series in the 56-year history of the award to have been cited three times. In addition, the series earned three Emmy Awards, two Writers Guild of America Awards and was twice hailed as both Program and Drama of the Year by the Television Critics Association.
Paul Attanasio created the series, inspired by David Simon's critically acclaimed nonfiction book, "Homicide: A Year on the Killing Street."
Jean De Segonzac will direct from a script written by Tom Fontana, Eric Overmeyer and James Yoshimura. Barry Levinson, Tom Fontana and Jim Finnerty are the executive producers. "Homicide: The Movie," is a production of Baltimore Pictures and Fatima Productions in association with NBC Studios.

NEW YORK, May 14, 1999 - Court TV (www.courttv.com) will be the "exclusive" home for Homicide: Life on the Street beginning this fall. NBC's decision to not renew the critically acclaimed drama for an eighth season makes Court TV the one place viewers will be able to watch the series. Court TV airs Homicide weeknights, Monday-Friday at 9:00 pm/ET, 9:00 pm/PT.
Beginning Friday, May 14, fans will have the opportunity to choose their favorite episodes from the entire seven season run of Homicide via the Court TV website. The top 15 episodes chosen will air in countdown form, during a 20-hour marathon on Memorial Day (May 31st) from 8:00 am. to 4:00 am./ET. This unique event will be hosted by cast members Yaphet Kotto (Lieutenant Al "Gee" Giardello,) Clark Johnson (Detective Meldrick Lewis) and Michael Michele (Detective Rene Sheppard). The episode chosen as the number one favorite by viewers will air at 10:00 pm/ET/PT. Votes for this special showing will be tallied until midnight (ET), Tuesday, May 25th.
The award-winning Homicide launched on Court TV in January 1999 with a special New Year's Day Marathon and has been a consistently strong performer for the network.
Art Bell, Executive Vice-President, Strategic Planning and Programming remarked: "We are saddened by NBC's decision not to renew this powerful drama for another season, but are proud to be the network giving viewers the exclusive opportunity to watch the series nightly as part of our compelling crime and justice program schedule."
Tom Fontana, Executive Producer of Homicide: Life on the Street, added: "Everyone from the cast, crew, actors, writers and especially Barry and I, are sad to see the series end after seven seasons. However, we are delighted that our loyal audience will be able to continue to enjoy this extraordinary ensemble team every weeknight on Court TV. We're glad that Court TV will be Homicide's home for years to come."
Court TV, a 24-hour basic cable network, provides a window on the American justice system through distinctive programming, which both informs and entertains. As the first and only cable network dedicated to crime and justice, Court TV broadcasts live trials by day and crime and justice programming at night. A service of Time Warner Entertainment and Liberty Media Corp., Court TV (www.courttv.com) is distributed to 35 million households.
NEW YORK--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--Feb. 9, 1999--Following the popular and critical acclaim of its New Year's Day marathon for "Homicide: Life on the Street," Court TV will be hosting a second, star-driven marathon on President's Day.
Court TV's stunt on New Year's Day generated the highest non-trial ratings in the network's history.
The Court TV President's Day "Homicide" Starburst will consist of 16 back-to-back episodes starting on February 15, at 9:00 a.m. ET (6:00 a.m. PST). The award winning dramatic series is renowned for the quality of its writing and production value. It has attracted such major movie and TV stars as Robin Williams, Chris Rock, Wilfred Bromley, Alfre Woodward, and Eric Stoltz, among others, all of whom will be featured in Court TV's one-day stunt. The complete "Homicide" Starburst schedule is as follows:

Arquette
11:00 PM "Requiem for Adena" starring Chris Rock
12:00 AM "The Documentary" starring Melvin Van Peebles
Note -- It's pretty laughable when you consider that a large percentage of the people "starring" in each of the episodes were mere cameo parts. Whatever. I don't take that much issue with it, because, after all, Court TV is doing wonders to publicize Homicide.
1. One minute after our contract goes into effect, we're having a Homicide Marathon. At 12:01am/Eastern time on January 1, we start the new year by showing 24 straight hours of episodes. Beginning with the original premiere episode, "Gone For Goode", the marathon will offer Court TV viewers the first twenty-four uncut episodes aired in chronological order. [Chronological date is equivalent to production dates? Maybe not. Regardless, it means that the last episode in the marathon will be "Partners", the episode that airs right before the beginning of the three part cop-killer trilogoy. That's some goot teevee watchin' there. To hell with Football on Jan 1!]
2. After that, we will show episodes four times every day. They will be aired at 9pm, 12pm and 3am/Eastern time. From Mon-Fri there will be another showing at 7pm/ET and on Sat/Sun at 6pm/ET
It will be scheduled as follows: There will a different episode every night at 9pm. It will be repeated at 12pm and 3am. The 7pm show will be a repeat of the previous night's show. We're still working out the Sat/Sun schedule.
3. Also, we're running Homicide promos on the site at http://www.courttv.com/onair/ (that contain audio)
4. Finally, you may know that since the fall of 1997, Court TV's Live 24-hour feed has been available on the Web via an arrangement with Broadcast.com. (http://www.broadcast.com/video/courttv/). Unfortunately, due to copyright restrictions, we will have to black out the Web feed whenever Homicide is running.
NEW YORK - In Henry Schlieff's first major move as prexy of Court TV, the cable web has purchased the exclusive rerun rights to the NBC cop drama "Homicide: Life on the Street."
Court TV, which will strip the critically acclaimed hour-long series weeknights at 9 beginning Jan. 1, 1999, bought the series from Lifetime.
Lifetime first bought the off-networks rights to "Homicide" for $425,000 per episode. Schlieff declined to reveal how much Court TV has agreed to pay.
Schlieff said that Court TV does not plan to add other fictional series in the near future.
As per its deal with Lifetime, Court TV will have rights to "Homicide" until 2003.
So, set your VCR's!!! Homicide's back in Prime-Time on Syndication!!!!

Coming to PBS stations in November......
NOVEMBER 4: At 9:00 PM, ANATOMY OF A HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREET
(WGBH) follows the production of the George Foster Peabody
Award-winning "Subway" episode of NBC's "Homicide:
Life on the Street." The documentary captures the program
development process, scriptwriting, casting, shooting and encounters
with NBC's standards and practices department. We get a special
treat when the documentary seamlessly leads into the completed
"Homicide" episode, played for the first time without breaks.
(check local listings)
So, is that the same Peabody award that Homicide has previously been awarded? So that makes three Peabody awards, correct? That's, if I recall correctly, an amazing accomplishment, as Homicide was the first show to ever accumulate 2 Peabody Awards.

Det. Rene Sheppard (Michele Michaels) and Meldrick Lewis (Clark
Johnson)
Det. Terri Stivers (Toni Lewis) and Det. Paul Falsone (Jon Seda)
Det. Tim Bayliss (Kyle Secor) and Det. John Munch (Richard Belzer)
Det. Laurie Ballard (Callie Thorne) and Det. Stuart Gharty (Peter
Gerety)
And, as a recurring character (altho God knows how)
FBI Agent Mike Giardello (Giancarlo Esposito)
no need for credit, just call me a "source." Actually I found the script in the ladies bathroom at the Daily Grind. Some source. The premiere is called "La Famiglia" and has to do with a redball. Triple murder in Little Italy, one of the victims is a member of G's family. Most likely this is how they introduce his long lost son.
So, remember Ladies, always check the restroom at the Daily Grind! :)
Scott Swinsburg writes in with this little tidbit:
It was posted on E!online's web
site {Note: I don't know how long this URL will be valid}. And
you can see the blurb read as follows:
"NEW GIG: Rocker/rehab grad Joe Perry to play a narcotics detective on an episode of NBC's Homicide next season."

Michael
Michele has been officially added to the cast of Homicide for the 7th Season. Here is
some more "official" information:
"Michele will play the role of Detective Rene Sheppard, a former Maryland beauty pageant contestant who was recently transferred from the fugitive squad to the homicide unit.
"We've never had anyone like her. Not only is she beautiful, but rhythmically she has a lot of different things going on," said executive producer Tom Fontana. "She will bring a different kind of energy to the set and we look forward to working with her."
{ Jason's Thoughts: Sweet Christ. Tom, I know you've got more creative freedom with Oz on HBO, but don't send Homicide down the shitter with this log of a story. A Beauty Pageant Contestant as a cop? I would give you points for creativity, but they're being sucked down in the gravity pit that has been formed in the "points for believe-ability" column. Sweet Christ. Maybe I won't be watching this season. How long until she's bumping uglies with one of the other detectives?}
Giancarlo
Esposito has been officially added to the cast of Homicide for the 7th Season. Here is
some more information:
Esposito, who first hit the public consciousness as Buggin Out in Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing, joins Homicide. Esposito will play the role of Lieutenant Al Giardello'ss (Yaphet Kotto) estranged son, an FBI agent who, after long-term tension with his father, returns to Baltimore and is assigned to the Violent Crimes unit of the Baltimore police department. According to Erik Kosberg's H:LOTS Families FAQ, it has been mentioned in a previous episodes that Gee does have a son, Al Jr. Thankfully, we won't have to deal with the "Where the hell did this kid come from?" thread. Also, John Bobby's site Homicide: Life on the Street Glossary indicates that Gee revealed this fact in the episode "Narcissus", from the end of the Fifth Season.
