John Landbeck's cruel idea of who dies this year (supposedly on Homicide) ------------------------------------------------------- Bayliss, walking up the stairs to the second floor of the station house, slow motion. He is wearing a trench coat, unbuttoned, with his arms folded and hands tucked under the flaps of the coat. He hasn't shaved for several days. The scene shifts to the squad room, viewpoint from the fishbowl, real time. The door shatters inward at Bayliss' kick, and he pulls his hands from underneath his coat. In his left hand, an HK MP5 sub-machine gun, his right hand, a semi-auto shotgun, with the maximum capacity drum, which he points directly at the camera, and shoots. Bayliss sprays the MP5 across the detective's area, and pumps several rounds from the shotgun into G's office; pauses and throws a deck of cards through the open window onto G's body. He is nodding his head in time with the beat of the song. He stops and shoots Pembleton again, saying "Grill this, _partner_." Bayliss empties the MP5 across the board, yelling "Look at *all* those red names, turning to black!" and throws the gun at the window of the box, which shatters in a star pattern. Frowning, he shoots the window out with the shotgun. "Boy! they _gotta_ get some tougher windows; these break _way_ too easy!" "...and don't forget my son, to include everyone-un-un-un!" punctuating each vowel of the extended pronoun with a round from his shotgun. At the phones. At people scurrying away. At the filing cabinets. He sees Munch cowering under a desk, "Hey barkeep! Bang!" Bayliss looks down. "Rats!" Drops the gun and pulls out his Glock, aiming it with his arms extended and quivering. "Megan!" he looks back through the rooms, kicks over the table in the coffee/break room, moves Meldrick's body (whispers in his ear, "Sorry about Emma, cuz'.") "Megan! WHY DIDN'T YOU REPORT ME?" Quick shot of Russert pulling a ski mask over her head, and swinging off the roof. Cut back to the squad room. Glass explodes inward from the outside window, and Megan comes swinging into the room, gun blazing. Bayliss, knocked over by the force of her entrance, is struck repeatedly in the torso, his body jerking with each shot. He falls, his eyes open and twinkling in a little smile. "Megan" "I still got enough bullets left," "For Gaffney and Barn-animal-fahhhh....!" Bayliss dies. Circling shot for a moment on Russert, as she stands up, holding Bayliss' Glock in her gloved hand, and looks at it in contemplative horror. Barnfather and Gaffney burst into the room, in all their bureaucratic oafishness, tripping over each other and themselves to berate her for "allowing Bayliss in the building." Close shot of Megan's face, her eyes narrowing, her mouth tightening. Sound of footsteps, and four shots in rapid succession, Gaffney yelling "Nooooooo-," his scream cut off by a fifth shot. There is a pause, then a hail of noise as Megan empties the Glock in shots so close together, they cannot be distinguished. Megan mutters "Thanks, Bayliss." ** At least, that's how _I_ would script it..... _____ John S.
